When to use ID Photo Maker

  • Applying for a Korean passport online

Online passport applications in Korea ask for a photo file of 413×531 pixels and at most 500 KB. Crop a photo taken in front of a white wall at home to that size and download a file ready to upload.

  • Refitting an ID photo file you already have

If the file from a photo studio is framed too large or slightly tilted, find the face again, crop it so the head is 32–36 mm long and straighten the tilt.

  • Photos for job and school applications

Use it when a form needs a photo in the 35×45 ratio. Download a JPG with the face centered and paste it into the form.

How to use the ID Photo Maker tool

  1. Click "Choose photo" or drag a photo onto the screen. A photo taken facing the camera in front of a white background works best.
  2. The first time, use "Download data" to get the face finding data. You see its size before downloading, and you can fit the frame yourself without it.
  3. Once a face is found, the photo is cropped and straightened so the top of the head sits on the dashed line and the chin falls inside the green band. Drag the photo or use "Larger", "Smaller" and the direction buttons to fine-tune it.
  4. Read "Things to check" and click "Download JPG" to get a 413×531 JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it for a passport or ID card as is?

The size and head length follow the Korean passport photo rules (35×45 mm, 32–36 mm from the top of the head to the chin), which Korean resident ID cards also accept. Other conditions such as background, lighting, expression and glasses are set when the photo is taken, so the office you submit to decides whether it is accepted. The checks on screen are for reference.

Does it make the background white?

No. Passport photo rules do not accept photos with a removed or replaced background, or a retouched face. This tool only crops, resizes and straightens. Take the photo in front of a white wall or white paper without shadows.

What is the face finding data?

It is a recognition engine and model (Google MediaPipe) that find the eyes, nose and chin in a photo. It is downloaded once and kept in this browser for next time. The face is found only on this device, and neither the photo nor the result is sent anywhere.

The top of the head is in the wrong place.

The top of the head is found by moving up from the forehead until the color that differs from the background (the hair) ends. If the background is uneven or the hair is close to the background color, it is estimated from the face proportions and noted under "Things to check". In that case, use "Larger", "Smaller" and the direction buttons to put the top of the head on the dashed line.

Can I print it?

Printed at 35×45 mm, the 413×531 JPG is 300 DPI, which is enough for photo prints. When ordering prints, ask for a 35×45 mm print.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are processed only inside your browser and are never sent to any server. Only the code and character mapping data needed for processing are downloaded from this site; your files themselves never leave your device. You can check this yourself in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.

Are my files safe even with ads on the page?

Yes. Ads only run outside the tool area. The tool area, where you choose and process files, is an isolated space your browser keeps separate, so other scripts on the page, including ads, cannot read your file content or file names. The tool area is blocked from connecting anywhere other than this site. When you drag a file onto the page, the tool area expands to fill the screen so the isolated space receives the file.
