Pixelate & Blur Image
Hide faces, license plates and phone numbers in a photo with mosaic, blur or black boxes. Mark several areas at once. Your images are never uploaded.
Your files never leave this device. Everything is processed inside your browser and nothing is uploaded to a server.
When to use Pixelate & Blur Image
Before posting on marketplaces or social media
Hide the name and address on a shipping label, a license plate or the home address on mail before you post a photo. Mark several areas at once and choose a different way to hide each one.
Hide personal details in screenshots
Black out names, phone numbers and account numbers before you share a screenshot of a chat, an order or a bank transfer. No original pixels remain under a blacked-out area, so it cannot be recovered.
Hide faces of other people
If strangers or children appear in a travel or event photo, pixelate or blur their faces with an ellipse. The rest of the photo stays as it is.
How to use the Pixelate & Blur Image tool
- Click "Choose an image file" or drag a photo onto the page.
- Drag on the photo to mark an area to hide. You can mark several areas. With a keyboard, click "Add area" and move it with the arrow keys.
- Under How to hide, choose mosaic, blur or black out, and set the strength for mosaic and blur. Choose "Black out" for information that must stay hidden.
- Choose a format and click "Download image".
Frequently asked questions
Can mosaic or blur be undone?
It can. Blur only mixes the original pixels softly, so software can sometimes make blurred text readable again, and fine mosaic can be guessed if the font and number of characters are known. For information that must stay hidden, such as license plates, phone numbers or ID numbers, choose "Black out". It turns every pixel in the area black, so the original content does not remain in the result.
Does the downloaded file still contain what I hid?
No. The photo is redrawn at full size and the pixels in each area are replaced before saving, so the hidden areas contain only the new pixels. Embedded thumbnails and photo information (EXIF) from the original are not copied either. The original file you chose is not changed, so make sure to post the result file.
Does it find faces or license plates automatically?
For now you mark them yourself. What needs hiding differs in every photo, and checking each area as you mark it keeps you from missing one. For a group photo with many faces, add several areas with "Add area" and move them into place.
How is the mosaic strength decided?
Higher strength means bigger blocks. The block size follows the shorter side of the area (strength 5 is one eighth of it), so the number of blocks stays about the same when you resize the area. The actual block size of the selected area is shown in pixels next to the slider.
Does quality drop outside the hidden areas?
If you save as PNG, the pixels outside the areas are exactly the original. JPG and WebP are saved again, so they may lose a tiny bit of quality (saved at 92% quality).
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Opening, hiding and saving all happen in this browser. Photos with the personal details you want to hide are never sent anywhere.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are processed only inside your browser and are never sent to any server. Only the code and character mapping data needed for processing are downloaded from this site; your files themselves never leave your device. You can check this yourself in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.
Are my files safe even with ads on the page?
Yes. Ads only run outside the tool area. The tool area, where you choose and process files, is an isolated space your browser keeps separate, so other scripts on the page, including ads, cannot read your file content or file names. The tool area is blocked from connecting anywhere other than this site. When you drag a file onto the page, the tool area expands to fill the screen so the isolated space receives the file.
